Therapy for those not used to seeking help

You may be the one in your family, office, school, or group of friends everyone sees as the helper, the one who listens to the problems of others and helps them to find a solution. Others may see you as having it all together. You may even prefer to see yourself as someone who does not need help; you will be fine once you get past that deadline, get past what is draining your time and energy, or as soon as the kids are older and do not need so much of you.

Or maybe you have switched careers or enrolled in a different school, thinking this change would alleviate the feelings of hopelessness and anxiety, only to find such feelings have not disappeared.  You might be questioning your worth or the stress might be impacting your relationships, sleep, or your ability to focus.

Alternatively, you might be satisfied with your job, school, and managing your life in a way that works but are longing for more joy, meaning, and contentment.

And while you understand the importance of prioritizing mental and emotional health, you might question whether therapy needs to be a part of that journey and whether, with so much on your plate, you have the time to devote to therapy.  But you are here, reading this page, because you are hurting, or parenting someone who is hurting, and need help.  I am here to tell you that you do not have to figure it all out on your own.

Therapy can help us discover not only how to effectively address feelings that are hijacking our hopes for a meaningful and fulfilling life, it also can help us discover new and healthier ways to respond to the difficult parts of our lives.
